I like to be true to my Sims and let their 'personalities' bloom, both in actions and story. So a great deal of decisions are theirs. If you are unaware of the latest Sims game, they have traits, wishes and reactions (moods). If i claim in story that the Sims wants a boy, or to touch another ones pregnant belly, it is though their own wishes and wants. If i say they react well, it is through their mood. Things such as having twin girls and starting a new relationship does wonders for the moods of some Sims (and the opposite for others, depending on their 'personalities')
Really i rarely need to use poetic license with them, even down to simple things as Torgos OCD and his want to continuously wash his hands (love the neurotic trait.)
